KA Sailing

Kaos 2005

The Kaos is our most popular sail - for good reason.

The 2005 Kaos has been dramatically reengineered with more XPly and Kevlar, a new window design and reinforcement upgrades.

Shape is similar except for a rounded head profile that reduces the swing weight of the top batten, allowing the top of the sail to spring back faster improving dynamic recovery of the head.

Taking feedback from team riders, the 2005 Kaos embodies the handling and light feel that the Kaos is loved for.

What riders say about this sail:

Duncan Banks, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia 18 June 2005:
Once again i have been very happy with the 2005 Kaos series. The sails got a lot of use in Geraldton this year and were very nice and crisp to use in
the waves. Its hard to find any problems with them as all the 2004 cosmetic problems seemed to be fixed. The only area i could see slight improvements is with the visual cosmetics.

Mike Hessels, Oudorp, Holland, 25 May 2005:
Yesterday evening we had a great 5/6 bft session at Wijk aan Zee with 50 guys on the water. I sailed the KAOS 2005 5.7: it was super. Most surfers  switched to 5.2 or 4.7 when the wind picked up: I just gave a little more downhaul and it just went on. The sail feels terrific and it feels and responds very light, but delivers the power when you need it. I am sailing with a very BIG smile nowadays!'.

Kristian Sexton, Hawaii, USA, May 2005:
As far as feedback for the new designs. Maybe if the old designs weren't so damn good I would have more to say. I use the 5.0 Kaos mostly. The Kaos is very strong, but still feels light. Boom length is perfect. I would not change that at all. (This was in response to a request for changes he would like to see in the 2006 sails - not much help really, but very happy to have such feedback :)

Arnout ter Schure, California, USA, May 2005:
The KAOS is something special: It has awesome wind range: While others just plane on a 5.7, I (>90kg) am already ripping with my 5.3 and keep it going effortlessly when others rig down to a 4.7. Can you imagine! Best of all, the sail's handling is a dream on waves, it's light and totally on/off when needed, while super durable. You bet it gets a beating here in California's west coast waves!
Keep up the good work and thanks to Tom Gallup from West of one Board Sports for carrying your amazing sails. (Editors note: Sounds like Tom is your sponsor for sure! That's OK, we will take any praise we can get :)

Bart Goemans, Holland, April 2005:
Today I took the KAOS 5.0 2005 out on Texel with sideshore 19 - 30 knot winds on the 2005 Lorch Oxygen 85. I have never sailed a wavesail which so naturally follows your all moves. It is just there doing what it should do and.....it just does it best of all! I don't know what you put into your sails Andrew, but McSail is starting to mean MagicSail to me.

Andy Abendroth, Germany:
Last weekend I tested the new 5.3 Kaos in rough and choppy conditions (shifty wind between 15-35 knots, temperatures 3-10 degrees celsius) on the Lake Constance (South Germany). Never before Ì´ve had so much fun with only one sail the whole day... :-) It works perfectly all over the wind range, it's the best sail for typical European condition. Thanks for your support.

Günter Lorch, Testing in the south of France..
I tested the new 4.7 Kaos in Hyeres. Conditions were side-on-shore wind 20-30+ knots.
I can tell you this is the best 4.7 I have ever used and I am sure you must not change the profile shape for the next 8 years! I used a skinny 400cm, the sail works perfectly on it.

Mark Stone, WA:
Used the 2004 5.3 at Coro yesterday, 4.7 at Spot X today, felt great especially after using those spongey e***'s. Sails rigged much easier this year, looser head was much better, colors are good.
Best week so far, once tuned, the 4.2 can handle a lot of wind. Last monday, 30 people on the beach , 20 on the dunes at Coronation just watching, 30 knots, mast high sets, it was crazy.

Duncan Banks, Victoria:
Just thought I would update you on my thoughts of the 2004 Kaos. In lighter wind, I found it hard to tell the difference, but when the wind picks up and I have to flatten of the sail, it definitely feels a bit more stable compared to the 2003 models. The adjustable head on the 5.3m is definitely better.
I am really happy with the sails. They feel light and responsive yet are super strong (they have had a fair pounding in the surf) and they look good on the water. And I know everyone who has bought one are really happy with the product.

Günter Lorch, Testing in South Africa:
I am now back from Cape Town South Africa.
We had a lot of wind and different wave conditions. The wind is a thermal wind; this means it begins with lighter wind may be 4bft. and grows up to 6 or 7bft. Wind is side shore or side-off shore from left. Waves are not so clean and not so easy to make good front-foot turns, but sometimes we had very good conditions for my front-food training.
However, may be my surf style with my new super fast wave-shape concept was not so perfect but shape of your sails works really great in every condition. Also my super fast board shape loved the shape of the Kaos sails. I never had better sails in Cape Town with such a big range. I am planing first in the morning light winds (my weight is 91kg) and most times I could use one sail for the whole day, I did not change sail size often when wind is getting stronger.
Most time I used Kaos 4.7 with Lorch skinny mast 400cm carbon 65, and 5.3 with Lorch skinny mast 430cm carbon 100. Rotation of sails works like oil, you feel no rotation you need never think about rotation, so you can concentrate the next wave action.
I rigged up sails with good downhaul but also deeper profile so I am planing very early in light wind, and if wind is getting higher I made profile flatter with 1.5-3cm more outhaul. If wind was very high downhaul 1 cm more, so I had more time to surf and need not always think if my sail is to big.
My font-foot sailing works definitely better with you sails than sails before (Zone) and I needn’t change sail size so often than the years before. Quality of sails and masts is very good.
3 times we had very light wind but good wave, I use the new stronger Kult 5,8 with X-Ply and the 2 mini battens in the top. This sail is really super, super good, Always planing, super fast speed, but very good in light wind waveriding, profile works great also in high-wind.
If I get some photos from me from Cape Town, I will send to you.
I think KA-sails will grow up in Europe very soon because they work.
Have a nice day
I must sleep now because my first working day.
