Curacao figure 8 Slalom

By Windfreaks,

On Sunday 30th of January Windfreaks was supposed to hold a downwind slalom but due to insufficient registrations they did a 8 figure.

Two days before the race windsurfdeal/Ihangloose received a shipment of new sails, carbon boom's and masts. I got a new 2009 Ka 6.6 Sail, a new 2007 Ka 5.8 Sail, a mast and a carbon boom.

On Saturday I tested my new sail mast and boom and as soon as I rigged up and tested the 6.6 Koncept I thought: “Wow, I am going faster with this sail”.

On the day of the race I woke up at 8 am in the morning, I heard the wind blowing through our palm trees and knew it was going to be a windy racing day. When my dad and I arrived at the race area I jumped out of the car and began rigging my new sails. I tried to rig it as careful as possible to prevent any folds. I rigged up my 5.8 Ka Koncept first because the wind blew over 25 knots.

Almost half of the beach was filled up with Ka Sails.

At 10.30 we had a skippers meeting and 11.00 was the first start. The first start I clocked too late and I had a really bad start. But during the race I passed a lot of competitors and I came in as 4th. The wind dropped during this heat and I decided to use the 2009 Koncept 6.6. My dad asked me if I wasn't scared that the wind would come back, I told him that it,s better to be overpowered than to stand still during my race.

The next races I windsurfed really good and every heat I had a top 3 ranking.

Just before the last heat the wind was super strong but because the Koncept 6.6 is a very light and controllable sail the wind didn't scare me off.

We raced in two groups: Under 15 and 15 and older.

I ended on a shared second place together with Nick Brouwer.

The results for 15 plus were:

1. Victor Wederfoort
=2. Jean Patrick van der Wolde Cur-191 (Ihangloose windsurf team)
=2. Nick Brouwer

Under 15:

  1.       Steven Max (Ihangloose windsurf team)
  2.       Aron Etmon (Ihangloose windsurf team)
  3.       Felix den Hijer

Currently I am training for the 2010 IFCA Slalom World Championships in Hyeres, France. Thanks to my sponsors this is possible, without their help this would not be possible... THANKS!

I am training very hard to end in the top 3 within the class under 15.
