KA Speed Fins

The Lockwood/McDougall speed fin series provides uncompromising top end potential in symmetric and asymmetric options. Current top speed by Chris = 47.6 knots for the 500m - fastest GPS time ever.

Speed sailing is largely about control, if you can get that with a fin that is also slippery and gets you back upwind easily, you have a speed fin. The KA speed fin is not just about sailing on perfect speed strips, but is designed, like most things that Chris Lockwood and Andrew McDougall have a hand in, to handle the difficult conditions with ease. These fins will help any sailor go faster, we are not yet sure they will do 50 knots, but we are sure they will make going fast possible and and as easy and secure as speed sailing can be.

These fins:
- provide great control at high speeds.
- do not let go getting back upwind.
- if they do let go they do not buck you, and will come back easily.
- allows controlled deceleration at the end of the run.
- the swept back angle makes them very forgiving and shed weed.
- and of course are very fast!

They can be used on larger than the usual speed boards in moderate conditions to reduce drag when going broad.

Sizes are 21, 21.5 & 23

What riders say:

Craig Spottiswood, Victoria Australia:
That fins are awesome! The fin do not flinch at all and show no sign of spinning out - I just pulled a 46.1 on the 20cm with CA 44 and 5.0m Koncept, and a 45.8 on the CA 50 and the 23cm and the 5.0 - the fastest the CA 50 has ever been. (CA = Carbon Art board)

Mathew Robinson, Victoria Australia:
I am lucky enough to have used Mal's fins (TM45V7, TM50 - both in carbon) and the KA / Chris Lockwood fins (G10). Mal's designs are quite vertical as opposed to the KA's, ie: 13 deg vs I think 30 deg.

Aside: they both felt good - but for different reasons - both fast off the wind - and I'm not that good of a sailor to give a pro/con. Upwind is where I noticed that the KA's bite really well in chop thus tending to avoid spinout. Compared to the TM's they produced more lift so I didn't need to point as hard. (From the SeaBreeze Forum)

Tony Wynhoven, Victoria, Australia:
If I was to left on a desert island with 2 things it would be the Lockwood 23 fin and the 5.8 koncept......

Tony Wynhoven, Victoria, Australia:
Andy Mc Dougall turned up late in the session with the new Lockwood/McDougall KA fins and I did a few 43/44.0 runs on the 23cm and loved it. I'm looking forward to the coming season on these fins as they give you so much more confidence on the water.
