Some preliminary pictures and settings to get people started.
I have just been out in the backyard rigging my new 7.5 Koncept to get some accurate reference numbers and pics.
The mast shown is 460 SDM IMCS25 CC
The mast length printed on the sail is the nominal total length to the bottom of the mast base. The actual downhaul setting is quite a bit shorter than this. I prefer to give the downhaul settings by measuring from the bottom of the mast to the bottom of the sail downhaul pulley when rigged. When I do this on my mast the figure is 481cm as you can see in the pictures below. This would be my starting setting but I would not go much more than a cm either way.
The boom length is the max length and typically the set length will be a few cm's shorter. For the sail rigged in the pics it is 205cm measured as shown. This would be my starting position for medium winds and would vary a couple of cm either way depending on the conditions I am tuning for.
By the way, I achieved this downhaul easily without the use of a crank winch. It is easy to over downhaul these sails ind is one of the most common rigging errors, as is over outhauling.
Cheers, Andrew D

Hi Daffy,
How awesome is the new 7.5!!!! Sailed it today on the F2 rx133 with a 43cm fin off Torquay point. A few years ago we would have given anything for a 5.8 that handled like this!! Downwind, upwind, lightwind, gusts.... it does it all. I may have had it a bit fuller than your pics (I'll check measurements tomorrow). It is a shame there's no 9.0 this year as it could be used to power the Able Tasman
cheers Tony |

Hi Mr Tony 'Abel Tasman' Wynhoven.
I recon you would find the new Koncept 8.5m would do the job now worries!
I was super impressed with the lightness and stability of the new 7.5m. Very slippery through the air as well. I guess I rigged for about 25KG less counter ballast than you might.

| I sailed the Koncept 7.5 2009 today, use similar settings: awesome! It feels turbocharged, yet very light and controllable. Normally I sail at least 1m2 larger than the rest, but I did not need that today (other 80-90kg guys sailed 7.8 RS Racings , the 7.5 Koncept was competitive, despite my weight of 112kg’s). Puzzled, because visually the changes compared to the 2008 model are not that obvious, but very satisfied with the way the modifications work out. Can’t wait to give the smaller sizes a try! |
