Hi, Im just got a 8.4 Koyote and are using it on a 120l JP Exite Ride. I feel it is to big for the board. Any advice / experience out there as to the smallest volume board the sail is comfortable on?

Hi Wedbike, I had a look at the specs of the xcite ride 120. At 67.5 cm it should take an 8.4 but it is getting a tadon the big side for that board. I am not sure what size fin you are using , if thats too small it won,t be helping.
Make sure the sail has adequate downhaul. If you are sailing it with minimum downhaul for power it will feel heavy and big.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. Fin wise I started with a 38cm which I spent all my time pushing hard off the fin. 2nd time out fitted a 46cm I still felt like pushing hard off the fin.
Are thinking of purchasing a new board for the 8.4,either a 145 litre/76 wide or 130 litre/72 wide.
Down haul. How loose would you recommend the leech?
Regards

Wedbike,

I know this is a tad late but the Koyote's like downhaul. At least my 08 5.9 and 6.6 do. The 6.6 needed more than I thought. Once I found the correct setting (I think 3cm over specs) it was superb. The 6.6 also called for a 430 mast but I have found it performs better in general with a 460 aided by the extra stiffness.

Point is, fiddle with settings outside what you may expect would be proper s...you may find it will work on your 120l.
